Girl Poisons Herself After Being Accused of Stealing by Her Sister-in-Law

A 17-year-old girl, who has been accused by her sister-in-law of stealing N3,000 from her handbag, died in Kubwa, FCT, on November 26, 2013, Tuesday, after taking substances suspected to be poison.
The girl was allegedly beaten and had her hair shaved with bottle before being stripped unclad by her sister-in-law at NEPA Road in Kubwa.
A police source at Kubwa said the sister-in-law blamed the teenager in taking her money, shaved off the girl’s hair with broken bottles and stripped her unclad on the street after torturing her.
“The woman was furious because she accused the deceased of always pilfering from her handbag every day and out of anger, she beat up the deceased, scrapped her head with broken bottles and stripped her unclad publicly,” the source said.
According to eyewitnesses, the teenage girl, who could not bear the disgrace, ran into the kitchen and drank what they called rat killer as a way of proving her innocence.
The girl was said to have been taken to Kubwa General Hospital where she was confirmed dead.
Tony Olofu, the Assistant Commissioner of the Kubwa Police Area Commander, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect is in police custody at Kubwa where she is being interrogated.
The case will soon be transferred to FCT Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after the results of autopsy and other medical reports on the deceased.

My reasons why i asked bloggers not to upload my songs

Recently, 9ice has gradually been making efforts to get back into the minds of some lovers of good music in Nigeria. Even though his recent music career has not matched that of his 'Gongo Aso' days when he stole the shows and headlined big gigs across the world, some critics have given a clean bill of health to bounce back.
Few years ago, he even got the rare privilege to perform for one of Africa's greatest legends, Nelson Mandela during his birthday. It was a great feat achieved by the estranged husband of Toni Payne.
The artiste has reportedly been struggling like a new born baby to gain his feet back in the industry he once ruled.
However, 9ice, some hours ago, warned website and blogs owners to stop uploading his songs on their platforms without his consent.
He took to twitter to give out this warning. "please stop uploading my songs on your websites without my permission. Good intention wrong execution. Pls honour this," 9ice wrote.
However, speaking with icemoodent.blogspot.com in a phone chat, the singer's management, DicotyleDon Entertainment, explained to us the reason behind the decision.
He said that Spinlet has got the exclusive right to upload the song for now, based on an agreement the music streaming site had with 9ice. He further disclosed that the right was only for few weeks.

Wonderkid kelechi iheanacho sets for EPL top club

Wonderkid Kelechi Iheanacho will sign a deal with Manchester City, according to the information provided by the player's father.
Iheanacho was named the best player at November's Under-17s World Cup after scoring six goals, including one in the final, as the Golden Eaglets triumphed in the United Arab Emirates.
Since then there have been talks about the player moving to Porto and Chelsea but his father, James, said that the Etihad Stadium will be his boys' next destination.
"As I am talking to you, I have chosen that Kelechi is going to Manchester United," he told Super Sport's 'Monday Night Football', before appearing to correct himself by saying: "I have told you that he is going to Manchester City."
The player's father later said that the their family made a joint decision on where he would go in a meeting on Monday night.
"We prayed [on Monday] and, after due consultations with family members, we came up with Manchester City, believing he has a future there," he explained.
The family believes that in Manchester City Kelechi will be uplifted.
It will be recalled that the young striker had been declared missing by his father on Friday after he had left his home in Owerri without alerting his family but returned early on Monday morning before a decision on his future was made.
James has been integral in his son's fledgling career, with rumours that he had valued the starlet at €1 million (£840,000), though he denied those claims, declaring: "No, those people are my enemies. I never said that."

Chancellors Order Universities To Reopen

The Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities on Tuesday called for the immediate re-opening of all shut down universities across the country.
This is contained in a communiqué signed by the committee's Chairman, Prof. Kimse Okoko, released in Abuja on Tuesday.
The communiqué was issued at the end of the committee's meeting to discuss the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other issues affecting the Nigerian University System.
It stated that the call for the re-opening of the universities was unanimously agreed by all Pro-chancellors in the interest of the country.
The communique directed all the Vice-Chancellors to comply with the decision.
It commended the efforts by the Federal Government to address the major issues that led to the strike and lauded the personal intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan in the resolution of the dispute.
It also expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the referendum conducted in all the branches of ASUU nationwide, which voted 60-40 in favour of the suspension of the ongoing strike.
The communique explained that the committee's decision was based on the negative impact the strike had had on the university system, students and the parents.
It, however, appealed for the understanding from the leadership and members of ASUU to ensure speedy restoration of academic activities on campuses.

100LEVEL BENUE STATE UNI STUDENT TO DIE BY HANGING

A Makurdi High Court on Tuesday sentenced, Jacob Atongo, a 100-level sociology student, Benue State University, to death by hanging for armed robbery.
In his judgment, Justice Adam Onum, held that he was satisfied with the confession of the accused to the charges and therefore, found him guilty.
Onum sentenced the accused to death by hanging, insisting that the sentence prescribed under the law for the offence must be followed.
Atongo conspired with two others and robbed Stephen Akuma, and several others at gun point on June 26, 2012.
The convict and his accomplices robbed Akuma of his Toyota Camry car with registration number Benue AID 39 AA and other victims of valuables, including various sums of money.
He also attacked Judges’ Quarters, Makurdi on July 3, 2012 and robbed no fewer than 15 people, dispossessing them of various items and money at gun point.
The offences contravened the Robbery and Firearms Laws.
During the proceedings, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and testified for himself along with one witness called by his counsel.
Prosecution called seven witnesses and tendered several exhibits, which included two statements made by the convict to the police.
In statements, according to the prosecution, the convict confessed to the commission of the offences.
But counsel to the accused, Mr E.Z. Agbakor, argued that the prosecution failed to prove the case against his client beyond all reasonable doubt.
Agbakor told the court that the accused did not make the statement tendered in court voluntarily, insisting his client was tortured and forced to confess to the offences.
He submitted further that several “material inconsistencies and contradictions existed which cast reasonable doubt on the case of the prosecution’’.
The counsel pointed out that there was no identification parade conducted on the accused, and urged the court to discharge and acquit his client.
On her part, Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs Moji Sule, submitted that prosecution had established every charge against the accused based on the strength of his statements.
Sule argued that there was no need for identification parade where the accused had identified himself with the commission of the crimes. (NAN)

Just got a press release from lawyer Festus Keyamo explaining that his friend and client, ex-militant Asari Dokubo was arrested in Benin Republic today. Read the press release below...
    Today, Tuesday, November 26, 2013, my friend and client, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, around the hours of 1:00pm and 2:00pm by the country’s gendarmes (Police Force).
    He was picked up around the Lubeleyi roundabout and taken to an unknown destination. We want to emphasise that Alhaji Dokubo-Asari carries on legitimate business and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now. In fact, he owns houses, schools and an academy in that country. All these places have been searched as at this evening and nothing incriminating was found.
    We think his arrest and detention is a ploy by certain forces in Nigeria in unholy alliance with the Beninoise government to keep him away as 2015 approaches.
We call on the Nigerian government to immediately intervene and ensure that no harm befalls Alhaji Dokubo-Asari and to use all diplomatic means to secure his immediate release and safe return to Nigeria.
Meanwhile, we shall be liaising immediately with our colleagues in that country to enforce his fundamental rights.
