Movie marketer ban mercy johnson for being expensive

Yeah you read right, Nollwood marketers have banned actress Mercy Johnson Okojie for being too expensive. Doesn't make sense does it? If someone's fees is too high, the sensible thing to do would be to boycott them and use less expensive actresses. Leave her to those who can afford her na, abi?

Mercy Johnson is currently the highest paid actress in Nollywood. She charges between N1.8million to N2m to feature in a movie. The others, like Ini and Funke charge between N700k to N1.2million.

For this reason, the actress has been blacklisted by the Nollywood Movie Marketers Association. The ban will not take effect immediately as Mercy has already signed up to do quite a number of movies. She returned on Thursday from a movie location, and will be on the set of another movie from tomorrow, Sunday. She will be traveling out of Nigeria sometime this month and when she returns, will be on another movie set...so she's basically booked till the end of the year.

The idea now is not to ban her after all her current contracts end. So the ban won't take effect until at least January 2014. This is not the first time the movie marketers association will be placing a ban on actors. They did this a few years ago when quite a number of Nollywood actors including Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, RMD, Emeka Ike, Jim Iyke and others were blacklisted.

I Dont take advantage of my female -OLAMIDE

Artiste, Olamide Adedeji keeps pushing the boundaries in the Yoruba rap genre in the Nigerian music industry using a style of delivery made popular by late music superstar, Da Grin.

In this Sun Newspapers interview, the talented rapper who is also a final year student of the Tai Solarin University speaks on his growing up, music, relationship with popular producer, I.D Cabasa, and rumoured affiliation with the Illuminati, believed to be a secret society.

Read excerpts from the interview below:

Could you tell us about yourself?

My name is Olamide Adedeji. I’m a native of Abeokuta, Ogun State. I was born and bred in Bariga, Lagos. I’m a student of Tai Solarin University where I’m studying Mass Communication. I’m from a family of seven.

How did you start out as rapper?

I discovered music was in me while growing up. In 2003 I started writing my own lines and performing at shows and the rest today is history.

What was growing up like?

Growing up was not that rosy neither was it that bad. Growing up in the ghetto was quite challenging because you’re looked down on by kids from upscale neighbourhoods. In the ghetto I was given ghetto orientation which is never to look down on myself no matter what.

Tell us about your love life?

I have nothing to say about that.

Late Dagrin seemed to have influenced you a great deal. What does he mean to you?

He’s more like the late Martin Luther King. I call him Barrack ‘O Grin. He is such a blessing to Nigeria. He really paved the way big time for up-and coming rappers like myself back in the day. It’s not like there has not been other people before him but his impact was awesome! Dagrin is a great artiste and I respect him; he is a legend.

Lately you have become so big. How are you filling the vacuum Dagrin left behind?

I don’t know. It is depend on people’s perspective. I just live my life the way I feel and besides, I’m not the only rapper in the industry. There are others like Lord of Ajasa. However I’m only doing my thing. Now people are comparing me to Dagrin and that feels great. I see it as a blessing from God. I can’t say I’m the best rapper; that would be ridiculous. It’s like saying Jay Z is the best rapper. However,  it’s not like Jay Z is better than B.I.G but people see the love they have for B.I.G in Jay Z. B.I.G died when he started making money and people were heartbroken. And Jay Z can never open his mouth and say ‘I’m better than B.I.G.’ The same thing applies to me too. I can’t say I’m better than Dagrin.

How do you get inspiration for your music?

I discovered a long time ago that rap music is all around me so I draw a lot of inspiration from my environment. I just feel comfortable being a rapper as opposed to singing. Seeing rap icons like Dagrin and the love he had for the art just overwhelms me.

How do you handle your female fans?

(laughter)We dey try. Behind every successful man there is a woman. For me it’s not just about a woman but women so I take advantage of it positively. I don’t sleep with my female fans; I treat them like my sisters.

What’s been your happiest moment?

God has done many things for me. I can’t tell which moment is the happiest but one I can remember was the release of my first album, Rhapsodi. I was so happy when it was released. That album registered my name in the annals of the history of rap music in Nigeria.

What was it like meeting I.D Cabasa?

I met I.D Cabasa when I went to record with a friend in a studio. We met each other and struck the right chords and the connection took off from there. That’s how I ended up having his support.  And ever since, he’s been giving me that special big brotherly love.

What’s your advice for up-and-coming artistes?

My advice is that they should put God first and do less of unnecessary hard work.

If not rap what would you be doing?

For now, I don’t see myself leaving the rap world. I would rather be running a rap music label.

What is the meaning of Ilefo Illuminati

It is slang in my neighbourhood in Bariga, Lagos. Ilefo simply means swag.

There is talk that you belong to illuminati. How true is this?

I have been correcting that impression in all my interviews and I’m not going to get tired of it. I only feel I need to keep representing my own people and communicating with them in a way that they will understand me. So, I want to tell my people that I don’t belong to illuminati or any secret society.

What has been your challenges?

Wow! It used to be an issue of finance. Right now the major one we are facing is the issue of piracy. And it’s crazy men! I feel it should stop but I also know it can never be stopped!

What are your dreams?

I want to be a global brand that is why I’m looking up to God. It is not by my power but by the grace of God. I feel honoured and great that I’m one of the top profile rappers in town.

MADNESS-MAN SLEPT WITH SISTER ON HOSPITAL BED JN BENUE

A Benue State man accused of raping his younger sister, while she was on her sick bed, has been taken before a Magistrate court in Makurdi, the state capital.

Jacob Jume was arraigned yesterday as the court heard that he had forcefully had incestual intercourse with his sister while she was admitted at a hospital in the Gwer West Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the 30-year-old victim was injected with a sedative and while she was partially incapacitated by the medication, her brother, Jacob, allegedly raped her.

Vanguard reports:

Jacob Jume was said to have taken advantage of his sick sister few minutes after the nurses and doctor on duty at the time had made their routine ward round and gone on break.

At the hearing of the matter, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector James Ingwe told the court that one Julius Aondona had reported to the police in Naka, Gwer West local government that the accused had forcefully taken advantage of his sister in a hospital.

”One Julius Aondona had few days ago reported to the Police in Naka that the accused, who was a staff of Tersoo clinic in Naka, had sexual intercourse with his sister who was a patient at the hospital after injecting her with a substance which made her loose consciousness.”

At the hearing, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction; but in her ruling the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Thereza Wergba ordered that the accused be remanded at the Makurdi prison.

She also adjourned the case to the 9th. of January 2014 for further mention and commencement of the trial.

A Famous Nigeria Prophet Exposed

According to our source; He said the woman has been frequenting a Prophet's church in recent times and each time her husband complain about it she' will claim it is for the good of both them and their search for a baby.

She told her husband that the prophet is helping her. The husband became suspicious and trailed his wife to the stream where she was suppose to have spiritual and physical bath, as suggested by the Prophet.

God help us...

GOODNEWS-FG TO ASUU AND STUDENT,SCHOOLS WILL BE OPEN IN FEW DAYS TIME-PRESIDENCY

The latest report reaching us is that the Federal Government has assured the Nigerian Students that Admission will resume next week! That is, we have just less than 4 days to go before we say goodbye to ASUU Strike. But the question still remains; we ASUU agreed to call off this strike?

Read the official report below. Breaking News: Nigeria Universities To Open Next Week, With Or Without ASUU- F.G President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa. An official of the Vice President’s office who pleaded anonymity told Scan News that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the Universities resume next week.

The President will at next Monday’s meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration’s last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike. A source at the Presidential Villa noted that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the Universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements. Already, most of the governing councils of the Universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the Universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan.

It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the Universities system from the direction it is facing at present. So, if the Academic Union of Universities fails to call-off this strike next week, the Federal Government will resort to Plan B! Now i love the sound of “plan B” am still not sure who runs the Nigeria Institutions, the F.G or ASUU?
SO all students should get ready to return to School next week.

Davido Speaks On How He Plans To Quit Music At 30 + How His Billionaire Dad Still Scolds Him

He granted an interview with punch where he said this and more. Wizkid is not a threat to him, Skelewu is already big and some people are just starting out at 30 but he is already a success and threat at 20.

“Wizkid is not a rival. I see nobody as competition or threat. God is behind me, so I just go into the studio, do my music and everything is fine. I develop and write most of my songs in the studio. I’m not afraid of competition or the fact that some person will just appear on the scene and take the shine. After all, I did it to some people, so I expect that it is something that must happen to everyone because you can’t be shining forever. But once you are good to others, make good music, have loyal fans, that’s all that matters. Continue below.

I have plans to go into oil and gas business with my elder brother next year. I want to do music for 10 years. By that time, I will be 30, and free to rest. Some people are just starting out at 30 but I am already a success and threat at 20. Fame at a young age is a plus because I still have like 10 years to ball while some people are just starting at 27 and 30.”

On Skelewu

“The song is big already; so whatever we do people are still going to talk anyway. I shot the video like a movie and there are three videos, so people can watch whichever one they want.If you don’t like the instructional video, you can watch Sesan’s, if you don’t like that one; you can watch Moe Musa’s. If people want, I will shoot one more video, it’s not easy.”

On his dad

"Yes my father is rich, but the truth is some people only knew who he was after I released my song, ‘Omo Baba Olowo’. I want people to know that the song was not a hit because of my father but because it was dope. I didn’t sing ‘OBO’ because of my father’s wealth – contrary to what people think. My father and family always keep me grounded. They call me from time to time to ask about my welfare. My father actually visits all these blogs to read and see all my nonsense. Just like the typical Yoruba father, he scolds me and whenever he does that, I will say, ‘Daddy cool down, what’s going on, relax.’ Although he is also very proud of me, he is scared and happy for me at the same time.”

Opinion: The 2012/2013 Nigeria Professional Football league season was a HUGE joke

Imagine the title winner winning 18 of its possible 19 home matches and drawing one, this same club now wins only 2 of its away matches, drawing 2 and losing an outrageous 15!!! What kind of a league champion is this??

In writing this piece, I have fulfilled my promise to some of my readers who have been asking me to write on the Nigerian League. The abbreviation NPFL means ‘The Nigeria Professional Football League’ still known to some as the Nigerian Premier League. The league has always been disorganised thereby not having a stable name to be recognised with like other leagues of the world. I read somewhere that in the 2013/2014 season which is yet to begin, the league will be named The Globacom Premier League again, well that is another issue for another day.

There was a time I was seriously following the Nigerian league but eventually lost interest in it after that infamous Davidson Owumi and Baribote saga. The league has a lot obstacles against its progress despite the abundance of talents. Problems ranging from bad pitches or below standard stadia, low turnout of fans on matchdays, security of lives and properties, hooliganism, insufficient funding and sponsorship of clubsides and the league itself, bad officiating, age falsification, lack of comprehensive records and so many others that if I should continue listing, I might cause severe headache for most of my readers so I better stop there for now.

I know many would still be wondering or  thinking why I called the just concluded league season a joke but I will shed more light in the next paragraphs, so bear with my inexperience at writing. I had been hearing and reading a lot of weird stories and reports about the league on the just concluded season. After several weeks of indecision and lack of organisation, the league kicked off later than usual. Despite issues of squandering of funds meant for the running of the league by some unscrupulous elements as the season started, our dear league still continued and came to a close some weeks back with Kano Pillars FC claiming the title while unfortunately Kwara United FC, ABS FC of Ilorin, Wikki Tourist of Bauchi and Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan got relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL) for the 2013/2014 season.

I was shocked when I checked the final standings of clubs on the league table at the end of the 2012/2013 season. Kano Pillars FC won the league title with a mean 63 points after 38 matches while Shooting Stars at the bottom of the log got relegated with 46 points after 38 matches also. You will be wondering what kind of league this is considering the closeness of points. How on earth will there be a difference of just 17 points between a league winner and a bottom of the table team in a 20-team league format? There was just a difference of 13 points from the league winner and the relegation zone. This closeness is just too unacceptable in this modern day football.

When I looked closely at the details on the log, all what I saw was a joke, thereby making me believe it was fixed. I know this has been happening for a long time but it is becoming too much to bear with. Imagine the title winner winning 18 of its possible 19 home matches and drawing one, this same club now wins only 2 of its away matches, drawing 2 and losing an outrageous 15! What kind of a league champion is this??

Another surprising fact is that no club in the just concluded league season won more than 3 away matches! The only team that even won the 3 away matches eventually got relegated (Kwara United), can’t you smell something there? Kaduna United that ended the season on 10th position didn’t even win or draw any of their away matches, isn’t this alarming? We all can see that corruption is boldly written all over the walls of the Nigerian league. It is almost a taboo to win or even draw an away match in the Nigerian league. Hence, the closeness in points amongst clubs on the league table or log.

It is only in the Nigerian league that a table-topping team will win its home match against a bottom team by 4 goals to nothing but go on the following week to lose an away match 2 goals to nothing to a bottom placed team even when they don’t have a coach (Lol). I don’t think there is anything called ‘form’ in the Nigerian league like we have in other leagues of the world. No club has a good or bad form as long as the club is at home or away. The 11th commandment in the Nigerian league I suppose is ‘Thou shall not WIN an AWAY match’. It will be very rare or even impossible to experience upsets like the ones we get to see in European leagues where little known or bottom placed teams defeat top rich teams away from home like West Ham United of England did to Manchester United at Old Trafford few weeks back.

All these issues all comes down to corruption within the league starting from the organisers or management, to the match officials down to the various club chairmen or owners and other stakeholders. I don’t think there is anywhere in FIFA, CAF and NFF statutes that states that winning an away match is an offence. I strongly believe that the 2012/2013 league season was just a joke and needs to be investigated by credible authorities like FIFA. The league is getting worse day by day and it is a pity that those in positions to put things right are after their personal dreams and gains. We cannot just keep looking and fold our arms and let things go on like this. Imagine the 2012/2013 season just coming to an end about 2 weeks ago (October 20) and the 2013/2014 season is yet to commence.

The league management should be overhauled and should be taken over by individuals who are credible, honest and dedicated to the development of the league like other developed leagues around the world. This needs to be done because a well run local league will always produce quality players for the various national teams at different age grades.  The state of league football in Nigeria is a shame at present and necessary actions must be taking for the future of Nigerian football
