Broken promises ended Oprah's friendship with the Obamas?

Ever wondered why Oprah campaigned for Barrack Obama in 2008 but not in 2012? Insiders claim Barack and Michelle broke promises to Oprah Winfrey leading to a bitter rift between them...

From The NY Post

"Everyone remembers that Oprah went all out for Obama during the 2008 presidential election. What was not reported was that, in return, Oprah was promised unique access to the White House if Obama won. She’d get regular briefings on initiatives and a heads-up on programs to give her material for her fledgling cable network, OWN.

“Oprah intended to make her unique White House access a part of her new network,” a source close to Oprah told me. “There were big plans, and a team was put together to come up with proposals that would have been mutually beneficial. “But none of that ever happened. Oprah sent notes and a rep to talk to Valerie Jarrett, but nothing came of it. It slowly dawned on Oprah that the Obamas had absolutely no intention of keeping their word and bringing her into their confidence.”

Oprah did not campaign for Obama in the 2012 race, and she has been absent from his battles on gun control, immigration reform and the environment. She claims she is too busy to get involved in politics, even though she hosted a fund-raiser for Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who won a US Senate seat last week.

Oprah’s friends publicly dismiss the idea that she had a falling out with Obama. They note that she phoned Michelle Obama right after the 2012 election to congratulate her. They say Michelle invited her to have dinner with the first family. But the dinner never took place, and Oprah continues to be frozen out.

“Oprah was hoping there would be a genuine change in the atmospherics,” one of her friends told me. “But there hasn’t been. Clearly, she is being rebuffed at the level of Michelle and Valerie. And, just as obviously, President Obama hasn’t interfered on Oprah’s behalf.” During Obama’s first term, I argued in my book “The Amateur” that Michelle was jealous of Oprah, furious that he was seeking her advice.

“For her part, Oprah doesn’t like being with Michelle, because the first lady is constantly one-upping the president and anybody else around her,” said an Oprah adviser. “Oprah has struck back by banning the Obamas from her O, The Oprah Magazine . . . It probably hurts Oprah more than Obama, who, if he had his head screwed on straight, would have flown to California and begged Oprah to help him save ObamaCare.

“But Obama hasn’t budged, and neither has Oprah. She’s hurt and angry, and I seriously doubt that Oprah will ever make up with the Obamas. She knows how to hold a grudge.”

Facts behind asuu strike--- Paul C Nwabuikwu Special Adviser to the Coordinating minister of finance

This is a press statement from the Federal Ministry of Finance about the ongoing ASUU strike. It's been four long months (Quite shameful I must add) with no apparent resolution to the conflict in sight...and some people are blaming the Minister of finance Dr Okonjo Iweala for what's going on.

Some people in ASUU have been distributing flyers with abusive messages against Dr Okonjo-Iweala and now the ministry is issuing a statement about it, saying the minister is not the problem. I'd rather read about when ASUU is calling off this strike to be honest. Find the press statement below

Contrary to some recent media reports, the Federal government has not adopted a take-it-or-leave-it approach in its negotiations with ASUU. Rather, the approach is focused on positive engagement and achieving sustainable solutions to the challenges facing higher education in the country. That is why President Goodluck Jonathan recently appealed to ASUU to respond to government’s positive steps by calling off its strike in the interest of suffering students and parents.

Despite this, for several days now, some elements in ASUU have been distributing pamphlets and flyers with abusive and inflammatory messages against the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in mosques and other places. This is taking academic unionism to a new low and infusing it with unnecessary politics. I am sure majority of ASUU members are not in support of this.

These messages are directed at using falsehood to demonize the Minister as callous and unsympathetic to the plight of students and parents. The major lie being peddled in the pamphlets and flyers is that Dr Okonjo-Iweala has insisted on a “take-it-or-leave-it approach” in the negotiations with ASUU. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala is the daughter of two retired professors and her father is presently a member of ASUU’s Board of Trustees and has been one for a long time. She speaks with her father everyday on the issue so how can be insensitive to issues concerning the sad state of tertiary education in the country? She understands and sympathizes with the plight of both students and lecturers. She wants our children back in school as soon as possible. Remember she is a mother and two of her young relatives are sitting at home due to the strike.

This is why government is working hard, under the leadership of the President, to seek practical and sustainable solutions to the challenges facing higher education in Nigeria. The President has made available N100 billion a year in the first instance to repair hostels, laboratories and classrooms and other facilities. An offer has also been made to ASUU of N30 billion towards their earned allowances. In fact, negotiations have even gone further than this. This is the first time, in years of negotiating with government, that significant sums of money have been put on the table for ASUU and universities on this particular set of issues. The Coordinating Minister is fully part of this.

Against this background, ASUU elements who want the strike to continue should have a heart and rethink their current take-it-or-leave-it approach to negotiation. Government has demonstrated its commitment to improving the university system. And it is even ready to do much more going forward. ASUU should listen to the voice of reason and the yearnings of Nigerians on this issue.

SPORT NEWS Schalke vs. Chelsea Team News: Cole Remains in London But Schurrle Heads for Gelsenkirchen

Chelsea reveal Ashley Cole has not traveled with the 21-man squad bound for Germany ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League game against Schalke in Gelsenkirchen.

But Abdre Schurrle, who picked up a muscle injury last week and missed Saturday’s 4-1 win over Cardiff City, was part of the squad which departed Gatwick on Monday.

Cole sustained a rib injury in Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Norwich and has missed both of England’s qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland, including Chelsea’s defeat of Cardiff at Stamford Bridge.

The pair trained on a wet Monday morning at Cobham, but Mourinho believes it is too early to thrust the England international into action and he has remained in London.
The good news is that, aside from Marco van Ginkel, the ‘Blues’ has no other injury worry.

At the other end, Schalke will be without their midfielder Marco Hoeger, who is out for the rest of the season because of a partial cruciate ligament tear in his right knee.

The Bundesliga club are already without striker Klaa-Jan Huntelaar, who underwent further knee surgery earlier on Monday and is not expected to return until after the winter break, and defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos. Midfielder Jeferson Farfan will also miss Tuesday’s tie.

FOZ-My life took a dramatic turn when i lost my dad

From humble beginnings in  minna, niger state, where he was born to Jos, Plateau State, Chocolate City's wonder kid, Panshak Zamani popularly known as Ice Prince has grown to be one of the hottest and most respected rappers in the country.

Thanks to his victory at the 2009 Hennessey Artistry where he came tops. And while it may all look rosy on the outside, Ice Prince has revealed that it's not been easy after his dad passed away, adding that just like any street kid, he's had his own fair share of ups and downs, and so fans should not be carried away by the glitz and glamour which has become his trade mark today.

Though, born to upper middle class parents, the Oleku singer insists he was not born with a silver spoon, he and his siblings had all they desired until his dad died in 1999 and life took a dramatic turn!

"I wasn't born with a silver spoon," Ice Prince told The Entertainer's TONY OGAGA ERHARIEFE in an exclusive chat backstage during the 8th edition of Julius Agwu's comedy show, Crack Ya Ribs held at Nicon Hilton, Abuja, recently.

Dressed in all white designer T-shirt and pants with a muffler dangling around his neck, Ice Prince peered at you from behind designer glasses crested with a fez cap which gave him that clean cut look of an American marine but for his goatee.

"My dad was not a billionaire, neither was he a pauper," he said arching his bushy eyebrows to drive home his point, "he sent us to good schools and we had vacations outside the country; we were okay but in 1999 I lost him!

"It was a big loss for me and my family. I was 13 and the eldest kid; I had a mum and two younger sisters to look out for and so I had to grow up overnight; thank God for family support."

Recounting the person of his late dad who was a soldier in the Nigerian Army, Ice Prince described him as a great source of inspiration and like every son would say, his father was a great dad. He said dad went the extra mile to make sure he and his siblings had all they wanted.

"He was a soldier," he states in his characteristic cool and calm voice, "he taught me everything I know today. My mum was very supportive but she died in 2011, so right now I am an orphan."

How does it feel losing both parents early in life? "It feels lonely! We were three kids; a boy and two girls and I am the eldest. I became the man of the house after my dad passed on and that has given me a sense of responsibility. It made me grow up overnight!

"I am 27 but my responsibilities are more than that of a 27-year-old. I have to take care of my sisters. I thank God for elevating me. I guess I was called to do this (music)."

According to Ice Prince, he would ever be grateful for the lessons he learnt from his parents, which have gone a long way in shaping him today. He says that while his dad taught him to be responsible right from an early age, his mum taught him to respect women.

Asuu kills- DESPAIR: Student Suicide Attempt Over ASUU Strike

According to the reports, a student of the University of Abuja tried to kill herself because of the effects of the lingering Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.

Jane Okora sent her two younger brothers out of the house on an errand.

When one of the brothers returned just after 15 minutes, he found Jane lying on the floor with a rope tied around her neck.

The boy raised the alarm attracting people to the house. When the neighbors came to help they discovered that Jane was still alive.

Jane's mother said that all Jane was complaining about was how the ASUU strike was inconveniencing her as she felt that she should have finished with her studies already and begun to take care of her family but her life was put on hold because of the strike.

Attempts to speak with Jane turned unsuccessful, as she couldn't respond to questions. The only thing she kept murmuring was "It was a better option".

Unbelievable Photo: World’s Biggest Rat Found

A British scientific expedition to a remote rainforest in Papua New Guinea has discovered a new species of giant rat.
The Bosavi woolly rat is the size of a small domestic cat, weighing about 1.5 kilograms and measuring 82 centimetres in length from its nose to its tail.
It was discovered in the crater formed by the extinct volcano, Mount Bosavi.
Experts say the rat is the same as those found in any city’s sewers, only bigger.
Gordon Buchanan set up the infra-red camera which provided the first images of the animal.
“This is the biggest true rat in the world – unbelievable,” he said.
“It’s actually so big it doesn’t look like a rat … it just is incredible. This is a really significant find for the expedition.”

A 16-old mother of two stabbed husband of 35years old

A 16-year-old mother of two, Ebere Ogu, has allegedly stabbed his 35-year-old husband, Patrick, to death in Akure, the Ondo State capital, during a fight, and has fled with her children.

Detectives from the criminal Investigation Division of the state Police Command are presently looking for her. Vanguard gathered that the crime was committed last Thursday at their number 70 Ijapo extension residence in Akure at 5a.m. Chinedu, a native of ImoState was a staff of Owena River Basin Authority, Alagbaka in Akure.

A co-tenant, who gave his name as Kelechi, said: “Ebere and Patrick frequently engage in fights but on Thursday, October 17, at 5a.m., the couple began to fight.

“Most times they engage in such fights, I go there to settle it. But on this fateful morning, when I got into their room I saw Ebere holding a knife against her husband so I pleaded with her to drop the knife and pleaded with Patrick not to beat his wife.

“At the first attempt I succeeded in separating them. So Ebere dropped the knife. But as soon as Patrick saw that his wife had dropped the knife, he seized the opportunity to pounce on her and gave her another beating.

How He Died

“I told Patrick to stop, but I noticed that when he tried to move away he slumped and that was when I screamed for help and called other members of the house.

“When we entered the apartment we realised that Patrick was already on the floor. So people began to urge
Ebere to lift her husband up. She eventually did and we saw that the father of two was already bleeding.

“We were all shocked and most of the people took to their heels. Ebere escaped with her two kids to an unknown destination.”

Police image-maker, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the ugly incident.

Ogodo said: “One Mr. Tuyi, who is the landlord of the house the couple lived in, reported the incident to the Police Station on Thursday 17, at 6.45a.m.

Ogodo said that policemen are searching for the suspected killer, while the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the Akure State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.
