Detectives attached to the Obosi Police Division in Anambra State have arrested a man, Tonna Enedo from the Umuezeshime royal family in Obosi, Idemili North LGA, for allegedly killing his mother.

Enedo spoke yesterday [Oct. 22] on why he killed his mother.

He blamed the incident on his quest to make money at all cost, adding that he was lured into a fraternity.

He said he has slept in the mortuary for seven hours as part of the money-making rituals.

Enedo said:

I was asked by the chief priest of the society that if I wanted to be rich, I should go and have fun with a mad woman. I should also go and sleep with a body for seven hours; I should fast for seven days dry; I was told that I would first kill my father and the last stage is that I will go mad and after I might have completed all the condition, I will become the richest man in Africa, if not in the whole world.

He said he met all other conditions and was planning to kill his father when he mistakenly killed his mother. He said it was after he hit a metal on her head that he realised he had killed the woman he loved most.

Enedo Tonna is a first-born from a divorced home. The parents divorced in 1984. He behaved like a mentally-challenged person in and around Obosi before the incident.

Woman Dies During SEX ROMP In Anambra State

Policemen attached to the Ogidi Police Division in Anambra State are battling to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman in her early 30s during a sex romp with her boyfriend in Nkpor Uno in Idemili North Council Area.

According to Daily Sun, the tragedy occurred on Sunday while the deceased and her boyfriend, identified simply as Ikechukwu, were allegedly making love inside their apartment.

The woman was said to have died while her boyfriend was discovered unconscious two days later.

Residents of the area alleged that trouble started when the fiancé of the deceased came home and saw that his wife-to-be was having a relationship with Ikechukwu, a lorry driver. He was said to have warned them to desist from the unholy relationship, but to no avail and he returned to his base before the incident.

A source, who pleaded anonymity told Daily Sun that Ikechukwu had been having an affair with the deceased even when he knew that she was dating a man whom the source said, was her fiancé and all efforts to stop the relationship proved abortive until death separated them.

It was further gathered that doctors at a private hospital in Nkpor Uno are currently battling to save the life of Ikechukwu, whose, condition remained critical at the time of this report.

The source said:

Just recently, the deceased’s fiancé came home on hearing about how his would be wife was flirting with Ikechukwu, and confirmed the tales he had heard. He returned heartbroken to where he came from and it was not up to one month after his visit that the incident occurred.

Both of them retired to Ikechukwu’s house and they probably had sex for too long before the girl started gasping for breath.

When we waited for them to wake up to no avail, we broke the door and saw the girl naked on the bed with blood gushing out from her anus while Ikechukwu was half-dead also naked. We alerted the police, who came and carried the girl’s corpse to a private hospital mortuary in Nkpor Uno while we are not aware of the whereabouts of Ikechukwu.

The DPO in-charge of Ogidi Police Station, Mr. Yusuf Abdul, confirmed the incident and said that the name of the deceased was not known as at the time of filing this report, but investigation was ongoing to ascertain the true cause of death.

Terrible---Gunmen invade palace over oil money

Panic hit the Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State in the early hours of yesterday as unidentified gunmen laid siege to the palace and abducted the paramount ruler of the town.

The attackers, reportedly numbering about 30, invaded the palace grounds at about 2a.m and forcefully took Chief Ubong Assam into custody.

The abductors then reportedly drove with the traditional ruler in a car to another village, Unyeghe in the Mbo Local Government Area, before disappearing with him in a speedboat.

Vanguard reports:

    The kidnap, it was learnt, might be in connection with N2.6 billion compensation paid by ExxonMobil to the four host local government communities, which the youths had rejected.

    Although the security personnel attached to the royal father attempted to rescue him, the kidnappers’ superior fire power won the day.

    The Paramount Ruler, who was sleeping when the gunmen struck was, according to a source, not maltreated by the abductors.

    The source said the abductors were demanding N150 million ransom to release the victim, as their share of the compensation money, which they claimed they joined in agitating for.

    A family source said: “Some of the gun shots sounded like bomb blasts. The operation was like an invasion.”

    The Esit Eket Divisional Police Officer could not be reached, but a senior police officer that identified himself as Ogar, said they had received distress calls around 2a.m., but that before Police arrived, the kidnappers had gone.

    Youths of Esit Eket, Onna and Ibeno local government areas of the state, last week came out to say they had demanded for N26.5 billion from the oil giant due to the oil spill last year September, but that the company paid N2.6 billion.

    They had alleged that some of the royal fathers in the area connived with the oil company to shot-change them.

The Federal Government, yesterday [Oct. 22], assured Nigerian students that the ongoing strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, would be over in a few months.

The Minister of Education, Mr Nyesom Wike stated this at the anniversary lecture of National Universities Commission, NUC, in Abuja.

The minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Macjohn Nwaobiala, reiterated Federal Government commitment in resolving the ongoing strike of ASUU.

According to Wike:

The Federal Government is very concerned about the state of public tertiary institutions in the country. The Federal Government is really worried about the ongoing strike of ASUU and the strike would be resolved in a few months.

A former Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Jubril Munzali, in his goodwill message, said the education sector for 21 years have been underfunded and the significant increase in the funding of tertiary institutions were done through the struggle of ASUU.

He blamed the Federal Government for the lingering crisis rocking the nation’s university system.

He said it is time Federal Government listened to its agencies and allow NUC perform its statutory role and fund universities based on the advice of its agencies like NUC.

“Successive administrations in the country never paid adequate attention to university education”. He said the Federal Government process of direct funding of universities, have over the years resulted in mismanagement of the funds allocated to the institutions.

What was not reported was that, in return, Oprah was promised unique access to the White House if Obama won.     “Oprah intended to make her unique White House access a part of her new network,” a source close to Oprah told me. “There were big plans, and a team was put together to come up with proposals that would have been mutually beneficial. “But none of that ever happened. Oprah sent notes and a rep to talk to Valerie Jarrett, but nothing came of it. It slowly dawned on Oprah that the Obamas had absolutely no intention of keeping their word and bringing her into their confidence.”

Facts behind asuu strike--- Paul C Nwabuikwu Special Adviser to the Coordinating minister of finance

This is a press statement from the Federal Ministry of Finance about the ongoing ASUU strike. It's been four long months (Quite shameful I must add) with no apparent resolution to the conflict in sight...and some people are blaming the Minister of finance Dr Okonjo Iweala for what's going on.

Some people in ASUU have been distributing flyers with abusive messages against Dr Okonjo-Iweala and now the ministry is issuing a statement about it, saying the minister is not the problem. I'd rather read about when ASUU is calling off this strike to be honest. Find the press statement below

    Contrary to some recent media reports, the Federal government has not adopted a take-it-or-leave-it approach in its negotiations with ASUU. Rather, the approach is focused on positive engagement and achieving sustainable solutions to the challenges facing higher education in the country. That is why President Goodluck Jonathan recently appealed to ASUU to respond to government’s positive steps by calling off its strike in the interest of suffering students and parents.

Despite this, for several days now, some elements in ASUU have been distributing pamphlets and flyers with abusive and inflammatory messages against the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in mosques and other places. This is taking academic unionism to a new low and infusing it with unnecessary politics. I am sure majority of ASUU members are not in support of this.

These messages are directed at using falsehood to demonize the Minister as callous and unsympathetic to the plight of students and parents. The major lie being peddled in the pamphlets and flyers is that Dr Okonjo-Iweala has insisted on a “take-it-or-leave-it approach” in the negotiations with ASUU. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala is the daughter of two retired professors and her father is presently a member of ASUU’s Board of Trustees and has been one for a long time. She speaks with her father everyday on the issue so how can be insensitive to issues concerning the sad state of tertiary education in the country? She understands and sympathizes with the plight of both students and lecturers. She wants our children back in school as soon as possible. Remember she is a mother and two of her young relatives are sitting at home due to the strike.

This is why government is working hard, under the leadership of the President, to seek practical and sustainable solutions to the challenges facing higher education in Nigeria. The President has made available N100 billion a year in the first instance to repair hostels, laboratories and classrooms and other facilities. An offer has also been made to ASUU of N30 billion towards their earned allowances. In fact, negotiations have even gone further than this. This is the first time, in years of negotiating with government, that significant sums of money have been put on the table for ASUU and universities on this particular set of issues. The Coordinating Minister is fully part of this.

Against this background, ASUU elements who want the strike to continue should have a heart and rethink their current take-it-or-leave-it approach to negotiation. Government has demonstrated its commitment to improving the university system. And it is even ready to do much more going forward. ASUU should listen to the voice of reason and the yearnings of Nigerians on this issue.

FOZ-My life took a dramatic turn when i lost my dad

From humble beginnings in  minna, niger state, where he was born to Jos, Plateau State, Chocolate City's wonder kid, Panshak Zamani popularly known as Ice Prince has grown to be one of the hottest and most respected rappers in the country.

Thanks to his victory at the 2009 Hennessey Artistry where he came tops. And while it may all look rosy on the outside, Ice Prince has revealed that it's not been easy after his dad passed away, adding that just like any street kid, he's had his own fair share of ups and downs, and so fans should not be carried away by the glitz and glamour which has become his trade mark today.

Though, born to upper middle class parents, the Oleku singer insists he was not born with a silver spoon, he and his siblings had all they desired until his dad died in 1999 and life took a dramatic turn!

"I wasn't born with a silver spoon," Ice Prince told The Entertainer's TONY OGAGA ERHARIEFE in an exclusive chat backstage during the 8th edition of Julius Agwu's comedy show, Crack Ya Ribs held at Nicon Hilton, Abuja, recently.

Dressed in all white designer T-shirt and pants with a muffler dangling around his neck, Ice Prince peered at you from behind designer glasses crested with a fez cap which gave him that clean cut look of an American marine but for his goatee.

"My dad was not a billionaire, neither was he a pauper," he said arching his bushy eyebrows to drive home his point, "he sent us to good schools and we had vacations outside the country; we were okay but in 1999 I lost him!

"It was a big loss for me and my family. I was 13 and the eldest kid; I had a mum and two younger sisters to look out for and so I had to grow up overnight; thank God for family support."

Recounting the person of his late dad who was a soldier in the Nigerian Army, Ice Prince described him as a great source of inspiration and like every son would say, his father was a great dad. He said dad went the extra mile to make sure he and his siblings had all they wanted.

"He was a soldier," he states in his characteristic cool and calm voice, "he taught me everything I know today. My mum was very supportive but she died in 2011, so right now I am an orphan."

How does it feel losing both parents early in life? "It feels lonely! We were three kids; a boy and two girls and I am the eldest. I became the man of the house after my dad passed on and that has given me a sense of responsibility. It made me grow up overnight!

"I am 27 but my responsibilities are more than that of a 27-year-old. I have to take care of my sisters. I thank God for elevating me. I guess I was called to do this (music)."

According to Ice Prince, he would ever be grateful for the lessons he learnt from his parents, which have gone a long way in shaping him today. He says that while his dad taught him to be responsible right from an early age, his mum taught him to respect women.
